Muzaffarnagar is situated in most fertile plains of two great rivers GANGA & YAMUNA. River YAMUNA is flowing on the western side of the district forms a natural boundary between Haryana & Uttar pradesh and mighty GANGA is flowing on eastern side of the district border. Muzaffarnagar is a SUGAR BOWL of India. The Economy of Muzaffarnagar is mainly based upon agriculture & sugar industry. It is famous for its delicious GUD all over the world. Muzaffarnagar has the largest GUD Mandi of south-Asia. Fertilizer,Paper & Scrap Iron reprocessing units are other major industries in the district. With population of 3543.36 (in thousand number & as per 2001 Census) the district spread over an area of 4008 sq.kms. and has 5 tehsil, 14 blocks And 1027(as per 2001 census) villages. Muzaffarnagar is also known as birth Place of famous KISAN UNION MOVEMENT headed by Ch.Mahender Singh Tikait.

A Tough Beginning
The NIC-Muzaffarnagar was formally setup in the year 1988. The initial going was tough by any standard. The foremost task was to generate computer awareness among various govt. departments & their employees. For this purpose the district informatics officer backed by the district administration arranged computer awareness programs for the staff and officers of various departments. These programs covered introduction to computer, use of computer in office automation, analysis, planning and decision making, utilities of NICNET & NICNET facilities etc.. Studies of the working of the administration were also conducted to identify areas in which NIC-district unit could contribute meaningfully. The intense efforts soon bore fruits and the Muzaffarnagar district center got off a flying start. Prsently there are two officers posted at NIC-MZN :

PROJECTS
Even since the opening of this center in 1988 many projects have been accomplished successfully. All these projects can be broadly divided in three distinct categories : 1-District Level Project - Which cater the specific needs of the district admin. ; 2-State Level Project -which tie up the district with the state framework of development; 3-National Level Projects - related to the monitoring of development & welfare projects running in the district with the financial help of the center govt.. The excellent performance of NIC Muzaffarnagar has gained wide appreciation from the District Authorities.

NICNET - A POWERFUL NATIONAL NETWORK
NICNET has become an indispensable means of efficient reliable and bidirection information transfer between the district admin. & the state capital. The NIC District Center, Muzaffarnagar provided the NICNET communication facility to wide variety of user departments. Such as Land record,Treasury,Agriculture,DRDA,Information office and DIC are using the NICNET facility on regular basis.It would be right to say that the computer & communication facility established at NIC - Muzaffarnagar is fulfilling its purpose by aiding the district administration to function with greater efficeiency and effectiveness. Recently DirecPC supported Internet accessing system has been setup in the centre. In future it will be replaced by much more sophisticated Internet Protocol Aadvantage System with fast accessing speed compared to DirecPC. This will enable NIC-District unit to update it web side locally.
